Running Out of Credits
What happens when your workspace runs out of credits, and how to keep Viktor running with top-ups, auto top-ups or auto-upgrade.
When your workspace has no credits left, Viktor pauses. He saves the request that was blocked and runs it as soon as credits are back. Admins can add credits in three ways: a larger plan, a one-time top-up, or automatic top-ups.
What you see at zero
Viktor replies in the conversation with a message that depends on who you are:
- Admin on a paid plan: "You’ve run out of credits, so I’ve paused your task." It shows your Current plan and Next reset, with Upgrade plan and Set up auto top-up buttons.
- Admin on the free Starter plan: "You’ve run out of free credits, so I’ve paused your task." It shows Current plan and Credits remaining, with an Upgrade plan button.
- Member: "Your workspace is out of credits - your message is paused for now." Then: "Only an admin can add credits. Want me to ask them?" It has Ask an admin and See your admins buttons.
If teammates or automations are also waiting, the message says so, for example "⚠️ Right now, 2 teammates are waiting on me".
If your last automatic top-up failed, the message starts with "You’re out of credits - your auto top-up was declined." Admins then see an Update payment method button first.
On the Billing page, the banner reads "Viktor is paused. Your team has used all credits for this cycle."
Ask an admin (members)
- In the out-of-credits message, click Ask an admin.
- Viktor messages your admins with who asked and what for.
- You see: "Done - I’ve asked your admins. Your request is saved and runs the moment credits are added."
- When credits are added, Viktor posts "Credits are back - picking this up now." and continues.
Buy a one-time top-up (admins)
A top-up adds credits to your balance right away. Top-up credits never expire.
- Open Billing at app.viktor.com/settings/subscription.
- Click Top-up credits. The Add more credits dialog opens.
- Choose One-time top-up, then pick an amount under Top up credits. Amounts go from 20,000 to 200,000 credits. The dialog shows the price.
- Confirm. If your subscription has a saved card, it is charged right away. Otherwise, you finish in Stripe Checkout.
- You see "{credits} credits added" and "Top-up credits never expire.", with a View invoice link.
One-time top-ups cost more per credit than your plan. For regular extra usage, auto top-ups or a larger plan are cheaper.
Turn on auto top-ups (admins)
Auto top-ups buy credits for you when your balance runs low. They are charged at the plan rate of $25 per 10,000 credits.
- On the Billing page, find Auto top-ups: "Automatically top up credits when your balance runs low."
- Turn on the switch.
- Under Top-up amount, choose how many credits each top-up adds (20,000 to 200,000).
- Under When balance falls below, enter a credit threshold. It can't be higher than the top-up amount.
- Under Monthly spend limit, set the most you want to spend on top-ups each billing cycle. It must be at least the price of one top-up.
- Click Save changes.
The card then summarizes the setting: how many credits are added, for how much, below which balance, and when charges stop. Top-up spend this cycle shows how much of the limit you've used. At the limit, auto top-ups pause until the next billing cycle.
You can also turn on auto top-ups from the out-of-credits message with Set up auto top-up.
Turn on auto-upgrade (admins)
Auto-upgrade moves your workspace to the next larger plan when credits run out, so nothing stops mid-task.
- On the Billing page, find Auto-upgrade plan.
- Turn on the switch.
- Read Turn on auto-upgrade?. It shows the plan you'll move to and its price. Nothing changes until you run out.
- Click Confirm auto-upgrade.
When it fires, the new plan's credits apply right away and blocked work resumes. If you are already on the largest plan, an auto top-up adds credits at your plan's rate instead.
You can also choose what happens at zero from the 90% usage message in chat, or with Upgrade automatically next time we run out when you upgrade from chat. If you choose nothing, Viktor pauses until your plan resets.
Limits by plan and permission
- Admins only: upgrade, top-ups, auto top-ups and auto-upgrade. Members can ask an admin.
- Starter plan: no top-ups or auto top-ups. Choose a plan first.
- One-time top-ups: need a paid subscription. Without a saved card, you pay in Stripe Checkout.
- Auto top-ups: need an active paid subscription that is not past due, with a payment method on file.
- Auto-upgrade: needs an active subscription.
- Enterprise: admins can set personal spend limits. A person who reaches their limit sees "Your personal spend limit has been reached. Reach out to your admin to increase your cap in Usage." Their scheduled tasks and triggers are skipped until the limit resets.
Common problems
The Auto top-ups card says "Upgrade plan to activate auto top-ups". Your workspace isn't on a paid plan. Choose one first.
The Auto top-ups card says "Add a payment method to enable auto top-ups". You have a paid plan, but it is past due or has no card on file. Update your billing details. See payment method and tax details.
"Your last automatic top-up failed". Check your payment method, then click Retry charge. You can retry by hand once per failure every 24 hours. Viktor also retries on his own. If it shows Auto top-up is paused, update your payment method first.
Auto top-ups stopped mid-month. You reached your Monthly spend limit. Raise it, or wait for the next billing cycle.
There's no Top-up credits button. Top-ups are for admins on a paid plan. On Starter, choose a plan first.
I added credits but my request didn't continue. Viktor replays a paused request only if credits come back within 8 hours of the pause. Send the message again.
