Use Viktor in the Web App
Chat with Viktor in your browser at app.viktor.com: start and organize chats, attach files, steer a running task, and dictate.
The Viktor web app lets you chat with Viktor in your browser, outside Slack. Your chats are kept in a sidebar where you can pin, rename and archive them. Web chat works for workspaces that use Viktor in Slack.
Open web chat
- Sign in at app.viktor.com/signin.
- Open app.viktor.com/web-chat.
The first time, you may see "Connect your Slack account". Web chat needs to know which Slack member you are. Choose Connect Slack and sign in with Slack. You use the same workspace, not a new account.
Start a chat
- Choose New chat at the top of the sidebar.
- Type in the message box ("Message Viktor").
- Choose Send, or press Enter. On a touch screen, Return adds a new line, so tap Send.
Each chat has its own link, so you can bookmark it. Your browser's Back and Forward buttons move between chats. A chat without a title shows as "New chat" in the sidebar.
Organize your chats
Open a chat's … menu in the sidebar (or right-click the chat) to:
- Pin or Unpin it. Pinned chats are grouped under their own heading.
- Rename it. Type the new name, then press Enter to save or Escape to cancel.
- Archive it.
Archived chats move to the Archived chats view. Choose Unarchive to bring one back.
The sidebar also marks chats that need your attention:
- A dot means the chat is unread.
- "Unread, from Viktor" means Viktor replied and you haven't read it yet.
- "Run failed" means Viktor's last run in that chat failed.
Attach files
- Choose Add attachments to pick files.
- Drag files anywhere onto the chat. You see "Drop to attach".
- Paste files into the message box.
You can attach up to 10 files to one message. If you add more, the extra files are left out. If you paste a very long block of text, it becomes an attachment chip and is sent as part of your message.
Send a message while Viktor is working
While Viktor is working on a reply, you can still write to him:
- Steer: your message is sent now, and Viktor reads it at his next step.
- Queue: your message waits and is sent as a new turn when Viktor finishes.
Which one Enter does is a setting Viktor remembers. You change it from the menu on a queued message. The Send button's tooltip shows "Steer" or "Queue". Press ⌘⇧↵ (Ctrl+Shift+Enter on Windows and Linux) to do the other one for that message only.
To stop Viktor, choose Stop. It shows "Cancelling…" until Viktor stops at his next step.
Dictate a message
Choose Dictate (the microphone) in the message box and speak. Viktor turns your speech into text in the message box. Choose Stop dictation when you're done. Your browser asks for microphone access the first time.
Limits by plan and permission
- Slack workspaces: every member can use web chat after linking their Slack account once.
- Microsoft Teams–only workspaces and workspaces without Slack: web chat isn't generally available yet. Use Viktor in Teams instead. See Add Viktor to Microsoft Teams.
- No plan limit applies to opening web chat. For what each plan includes, see Plans and credits.
Common problems
- "Connect your Slack account". Choose Connect Slack and sign in with the Slack account you use in your team's workspace.
- "Chat isn't available". Chat isn't switched on for your account. How Viktor is set up for your team decides this, for example a workspace without Viktor in Slack. Ask a workspace admin, or choose Visit the help center.
- Web chat sends you back to the dashboard. Chat isn't available for your account. The same reasons apply as for "Chat isn't available".
- Some files didn't attach. You added more than 10. Send the rest in another message.
- Dictation doesn't start. Allow microphone access for app.viktor.com in your browser settings.
