Use Viktor in Google Chat
Install the Viktor Chat app, connect your company, and see exactly what data Viktor receives.
Viktor is available as a Google Chat app. You can message it directly or @mention it in a space, and it replies in the same thread.
What Viktor does in Google Chat
- Direct messages: send Viktor a DM and it works on your request and replies there.
- Spaces: add Viktor to a space and @mention it. Viktor replies in the thread you started.
- Only what is sent to it: Viktor sees a message only when it @mentions Viktor or is a DM to Viktor. It does not receive or read the other messages in a space.
Install the app
Find Viktor in the Google Workspace Marketplace. A user can install it for themselves, or a Google Workspace admin can install it for the whole organization. When an admin installs it, the admin approves the app's permissions once for the organization.
Connect your company (admins)
- In Viktor's workspace settings, find Google Chat in the chat platforms section and click Connect. You need to be an admin of your Viktor workspace.
- Sign in with a Google account that is a super admin of your Google Workspace. The first connection of a domain must be made by a super admin.
- On this first connection, Google asks the admin to allow Viktor to see your domain's directory, so Viktor knows your teammates by name and work email. This needs External Directory Sharing turned on in the Google Admin console.
Link your account (members)
Type /connect to Viktor in Google Chat and open the personal link it sends you (it works only for you, for 24 hours), or click Link your Google account in Viktor's settings. Sign in with your Google Workspace account. This links your Google identity to your Viktor account.
What data Viktor receives
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Messages that @mention Viktor, DMs to Viktor, and their attachments; the sender's name, email and Google Chat ID; space and thread names and IDs | Each time you message Viktor | To carry out your request and reply |
| Your basic Google profile (name, email, profile picture) | When you link your account | To link your Google account to your Viktor account |
| Your organization's directory: name, work email and Google user ID of each person | When the admin approves directory access at the first connection; at connection and when Viktor refreshes it | So Viktor knows who your teammates are |
| Whether the person connecting is a super admin (yes or no) | Once, when a domain is first connected | To stop anyone but an admin from connecting the company's domain |
| Space membership changes and space details (name, type, access settings) | For spaces Viktor has been added to | So what Viktor learned in a space stays visible only to that space's current members |
Viktor does not read other messages or past conversation history in a space, and it does not read your contacts. We never sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or use it to train generalized AI models. Viktor's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. See section 11 of our Privacy Policy for details.
Disconnect, unlink and delete
- Stop Viktor in a space: remove Viktor from the space. Viktor stops receiving messages from it.
- Uninstall: remove the app in Google Chat, or an admin removes it in the Google Admin console.
- Disconnect your company: a Viktor workspace admin can ask support@viktor.com to disconnect your Google Workspace domain from Viktor.
- Unlink your account: revoke Viktor's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions (Security › Third-party access).
- Delete stored data: disconnecting does not by itself delete what Viktor already stored. Email support@viktor.com and we delete it as described in our Privacy Policy.
Troubleshooting
- "The first Google Chat connection for your company is made by a super admin of your Google Workspace": ask your Google super admin to click Connect first. After that, members can link their own accounts.
- "Your Google Workspace domain is already connected to another Viktor workspace": ask that workspace's admin, or contact support@viktor.com.
- "A workspace admin connects Google Chat first": an admin of your Viktor workspace has to connect Google Chat before you can link your account.
- "Sign in with your company account, not a personal Gmail address": Google Chat connects only with a Google Workspace (work) account.
- Viktor doesn't know some teammates: turn on External Directory Sharing in the Google Admin console, then reconnect.
- Access blocked: see Fix Access blocked when signing in with Google.
